Bylaws
As a Venturer, I promise to do my duty to God and help strengthen America, to help others, and to seek truth, fairness, and adventure in our world.
Crew
Bylaws
1. Objectives
Venture Crew 83's program has three purposes; (1) it is a
program that encourages youths of all levels of experience to
get together and have fun, (2) it is a way for youths to
interact with their community and foster
a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility,
and (3) it is a high adventure program that is intended to keep
our older, experienced Scouts involved in the Scouting program.
Crews specialize in activities varying from high adventure,
sports, caving, scuba diving, and much more. Our crew is a
high adventure crew that does everything from backpacking,
canoeing, cycling, climbing, and everything in between; we just
like to have fun!
2. Membership
Membership shall be open to all young adults of high school
age who live in the surrounding area and have completed the
eighth grade and are at least 14 years of age. No
prospective member shall be disqualified because of race, color,
creed, or sex. All members must be registered as Venturers,
attain a level of outdoor skills outlined in the Outdoor Bronze
Award Requirements or First Class Scout, and agree to the crew
code and bylaws.
3. Officers
4. Crew business
- The elected officers shall be president, two vice presidents, secretary, and treasurer. The president, with the approval of the Advisor, shall appoint activity chairs and make other assignments as needed. The duties of the officers shall be as prescribed in the Venturing Leader Manual.
- The normal term of office shall be for one year starting on February 1. Elections shall be held in January.
- No member shall serve more than two successive terms in the same office.
- The president shall appoint a nominating committee, which shall consist of three members. The committee shall interview and present a complete slate of candidates who have agreed, if elected, to serve to the best of their abilities.
- On the night of the election, nominations may be presented from the floor by any member. If the nomination is seconded and the candidate agrees to serve, he or she must be included on the ballot.
- All contested ballots shall be secret.
Crew business will be conducted under the principles outlined in Robert's Rules of Order. Voting on all issues will be by simple majority, with the exception of changes or amendments to the bylaws, which will require a two-thirds vote of the total membership. A quorum shall consist of one more than the majority of members for votes on routine business.
5. General meetings
General meetings will be held twice a month. The day
will be decided by the membership at the beginning of each
school year.
6. Officers' meetings
Officers' meetings will be held at least once a month, some
time prior to the first crew meeting of that month.
7. Website
The crew will update the website every month, which shall
include all meeting dates and other information of interest to
the membership. The website will serve as the historical
record of the crew.
8. Dues
Dues will be $15 per year, payable in December when the Crew
recharters.
9. Money-earning projects
All money-earning projects must be approved by a majority
vote of crew members. Members who do not participate in a
project are not entitled to any benefits of the funds earned.
All money-earning projects must be approved by the Advisor and
